If you are planning to run away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, plan a trip to Alibag. This place is a quiet coastal town in the Konkan region of Maharashtra and has a treasure of mesmerizing locations where one can enjoy nature to its fullest. The town is just about 95.4kms from Mumbai city and 142.5kms from Pune and has well connected network of roads. The highway from Mumbai via Pen which is around 30 kilo meters away from the town is a motorable road. One can also opt for the Mumbai-Goa highway (NH-17) till Wadkhal and take right to reach Alibag town. The state government transport department has many buses running daily between Mumbai and Alibag. There are around 35 to 40 state buses shuttling between Borivali, Thane, Kalyan, Pune, Kolhapur, Miraj, Nashik and Alibag. The ticket prices are reasonable and both AC and Non-AC options are available. Private Volvo bus services are also a viable option. Different car rental companies are also in operation, they offer both reasonable and luxury cars at various rates for day or overnight trips. The rate per km may vary between Rs 11.50 to Rs 16.00 with a round trip distance of about 210 kilo meters.
For tourists from Pune, the road journey is also not very hectic. It is just about 150kms with many deluxe and semi-deluxe buses available. Various rented cars are available for a round trip cost of approximately, Rs 3000/- to Rs 4000/-. For those who do not enjoy long car or bus journeys, can take local trains from Pune Junction to Panvel. Just outside the station is the local taxi stand, where taxis can be hired for a round trip to Alibag at a cost of Rs 1000/- as per prevalent rates in the year 2014. Local buses also run between Panvel and Alibag with a fare of only Rs 50/-.
By RailAlibag does not have its own railway station. The nearest railway station is Roha which is at a distance of 47 kilo meters. One can also reach Panvel Station (65 kilo meters from Alibag) or Khandala Station (70 kilo meters from Alibag). Numerous trains connect these stations with different parts of Maharashtra and India. Outside these stations tourists can get local taxis and state buses which will take them to the coastal town, Alibag.
